Voter Registration
Complete Voter Registration if:
- You are a new voter
- Changed your name
- Changed your address
You can register:
- Online here (opens in new tab), or
- At the Aitkin County Auditor's Office, 307 2nd Street NW, Aitkin MN 56431
Please note that registration closes 20 days before Election Day, but you can still register on Election Day with proof of current residency.
Mail Voting
32 of Aitkin County's 51 Precincts are Mail Ballot Precincts. The designation is determined by each individual municipality.
Ballots are automatically mailed to ALL REGISTERED VOTERS in a Mail Ballot Precinct 3-4 weeks before the election.

Voted ballots can be returned on or before Election Day:
- In the postage prepaid envelope provided
- Drop off at the Aitkin County Auditor's Office

Absentee Voting
Request an absentee ballot online (opens in new tab). Applications cannot be accepted on Election Day.
Become a Permanent Absentee voter. To have a ballot mailed to your residence for all elections, update your voter registration and check the box indicating your preference to be a permanent absentee voter. Update voter registration online (opens in new tab).
Voted Absentee Ballots can be returned:
- In the postage prepaid envelope provided. Please allow ample time for your ballot to get back to us by 8 PM on Election Day for your vote to count.
- Drop off at the Aitkin County Auditor's Office by 5 PM on Election Day.
If you need someone to witness your ballot, please bring your UNVOTED ballot to the Aitkin County Auditor's Office for assistance.
In special situations, you may ask an agent to pick up and return an absentee ballot for you. The deadline to return an agent delivered ballot is 8 PM on Election Day. Learn more about Agent Delivery (opens in new tab).
