What is Public Health?

Public Health is concerned with the general health of a community and the practice and study of ways to preserve and improve it. It has been said that: "Health care is vital to all of us some of the time, but public health is vital to all of us all of the time."

The mission of public health is to "fulfill society's interest in assuring conditions in which people can be healthy." The three core public health functions are:

Public health includes health education, sanitation, control of diseases, and regulation of pollution.

The Mission... The purpose or aim, based on shared values that motivate and guides future action;
of Public Health Services... State and local activities designed to protect and promote the heath of the general population by emphasizing the prevention of disease, injury, disability, and preventable death through assessment, and the promotion of effective coordination and the use of community resources, and by extending health services into the community
is to bring people together... To develop a system of cooperative partnerships, based on mutual respect, involving professionals, representatives of the community and the state and local government;
to create a healthy future... To assure that every individual has the opportunity to achieve and maintain their best level of health and independence and lead a vital, productive life;
for all of Aitkin County. All persons on the basis of need. No one shall be denied services because of race, color, gender, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, political persuasion, physical or mental ability, or ability to pay.
