Why doesn’t my GPS correctly locate an address in Aitkin County?

The reason that your GPS may not correctly locate an address in Aitkin County is because the data providers that provide the GPS companies with the map data are NOT using the same road mapping database as we use for the dispatching of emergency vehicles and personnel. This is also the reason that some online mapping services, such as; Yahoo Maps, Bing Maps, Google Maps, etc., do not correctly locate addresses either in Aitkin County. All these services are using a mapping database that is out of date.

One alternative is to use Google Earth to find the approximate X and Y Coordinates, (Latitude and Longitude), of your house and enter those coordinates into a GPS. Aitkin County would share its road mapping database with these data providers if we receive a data request from them. The best and most up to date source currently for correctly locating addresses in Aitkin County is to use our web mapping service, WebFusion. However, this will not help you locate addresses with your GPS. You can locate any E-911 rural address in Aitkin County using either the 'Geocode Search' or the 'Search by Address' function in WebFusion. For more information on the use of these tools, please refer to the ‘Help’ link provided in WebFusion.
