AITKIN COUNTY INTERNET APPLICATION
An internet application was developed to assist property owners in Aitkin County to obtain their E911 address. This was a relatively simple application requiring an electronic form to be created and posted on our web site. Once posted on our web site, a person could fill in some basic information such as; name, address, parcel-id, and e-mail address. After submitting the form, it would come directly to my PC via an e-mail. I would then search our E911 GIS address database. If I was able to find the name of the person in our address database, I would send the property owner their E911 address, via e-mail, after doing some double checking using their legal description.
I feel that this internet application has really helped deliver a service to the tax-payers of this county in an efficient manner. It has also reduced staff time and other costs to the county. First, it has reduced the amount of time spent on the telephone talking with the property owner trying to figure out where they live. Secondly, it has reduced postage and paper costs by eliminating the need to send out address notification letters. Thirdly, it has given property owners another option of notifying the county that they have not received their address. In six months, this process has solved approximately 5-10% of the "unknown" addresses in the county.
