Certified Food Manager Requirements for Aitkin County

Food Manager Certification and Re-Certification

The State of Minnesota requires a Minnesota Certified Food Manager in most food establishments. Food manager certification is administered by the Minnesota Department of Health.

If you are already a Certified Food Manager you must be re-certified once every 3 years. The expiration date is displayed on your certificate. To achieve re-certification you must complete a 4-hour food safety class that is offered by an approved supplier.

Aitkin County Environmental Services is a MDH approved supplier and periodically gives free training for re-certification. The only prerequisite is that your business in located in Aitkin County or that you are employed by an Aitkin County-based business.

Training: Contact Douglas Pearson, Environmental Health Specialist, at 218.927.7366 for a list of training dates for re-certification. Topics covered will include food sanitation and safety, emerging trends in food preparation and handling, and the prevention of foodborne illness.
Apply: Once the re-certification class has been attended and a completion certificate given to you, mail this information along with a current MDH Re-certification Application and the required renewal fee (currently $35) directly to the Minnesota Department of Health in St. Paul.
